DESCRIPTION
“SPEED CRETE” is a complete, ready-to-use concrete patching compound for fast, permanent repairs. Requires only the addition of water. Available in two types: Red Line for general purpose patching and Blue Line for underwater applications.
Product No. | 3900-122 (Red Line) |
3900-132 (Blue Line) |
USE
“SPEED CRETE” Red Line is used for general purpose patching and restoring of Portland cement concrete in highways, streets, bridges, floors, precast panels and pipes.

CAUTION
Do not re-temper. Mix no more than 45.4 kg (100 lbs.) at a time. Do not mix for more than 60 seconds. Do not add sand – destroys bond and workability. Do not featheredge. Do not apply as a thin skin topping. Prolonged contact with skin may cause irritation. Use rubber gloves when handling SPEED CRETE. |

APPLICATION
Surface Preparation
All loose, scaly, oily material shall be removed prior to placing “SPEED CRETE”. In underwater applications, marine growth, deteriorated concrete or wood and rust scale shall be removed. Chip out clean edges at least 12.7 mm (1/2″) deep around patch area. When depth of the patch is less than 3/4″ (19 mm), or when applying over smooth concrete, a bonding agent is recommended.
Consider W. R. MEADOWS’ INTRALOK Bonding Agent (Product No. 3300-501). Alternatively dampen area to be patched with water (except if temperature is below 2°C (35°F), immediately before application of “SPEED CRETE”
Mixing
A typical mixture is in the ratio of about 5.7 litres (5 quarts) of water to 22.7 kg (50 lbs.) “SPEED CRETE” Red Line (per bag), or 5.1 litres (4.5 quarts) of water to 22.7 kg (50 lbs.) “SPEED CRETE” Blue Line (per bag). Water shall be clean and either fresh or sea water. “SPEED CRETE” and water shall be thoroughly mixed for not more than one minute to the consistency of putty with NO SLUMP. There shall be no re-tempering. If mixed by hand, 2.5 to 4.5 kg (5 to 10 lbs.) can be readily mixed in a bucket. For larger quantities, use a wheelbarrow or trough. If mixed in a mortar mixer, use a small mixer with rubber tipped paddles. Mix no more than 45 kg (100 lbs.) at a time. Pour required amount of water into mixer then add (if needed) up to 80% by weight of washed pea gravel up to 9.5 mm (3/8″) maximum, then add “SPEED CRETE”. Mix just long enough to achieve the consistency of putty with no slump. Do not mix for more than 60 seconds. Do not add sand, anti-freeze, calcium chloride or other chemicals.
Placement
Place no slump mix in a firm manner to ensure complete bond to all areas being covered. “SPEED CRETE” can be applied by trowel or hand methods. DO NOT OVERWORK OR OVERTROWEL IT.
In vertical or overhead placements apply “SPEED CRETE” in layers and allow each layer to reach its initial set before applying a further layer. The layers can be up to 102 mm (4″) thick on vertical surfaces and up to 50.8 mm (2″) thick on overhead surfaces.
When repairing deep holes place the mix containing aggregate within 25.4 mm (1″) of the top, and finish with a layer of “SPEED CRETE” without aggregate. If forms are used, they may be removed 30 minutes after all “SPEED CRETE” is in place.
Finishing
Finish to an even surface by tamping within 3 5 minutes after placement. “SPEED CRETE” may be shaved smooth after initial set. Underwater applications are best finished by hand. Cure by application of #3100 (Product No. 3050-101), #1100 (Product No. 3300-341) or #1220 (Product No. 3300-131) concrete curing compounds by W. R. MEADOWS, applied promptly after finishing. Do not use curing compounds when a bonding agent has been used.
Clean Up
Wash all tools and mixing equipment immediately after use with clean water.
Proper application is the responsibility of the user. Field visits by W. R. MEADOWS’ personnel are for the purpose of making technical recommendations only, and are not to supervise or provide quality control on the job-site.
SAFETY & TOXICITY
See product label and MSDS information. Read and follow all instructions and precautions.
