CURING COMPOUNDS VS. CURING AND SEALING COMPOUNDS VS. SEALING COMPOUNDS

Curing compounds (cures) are liquid membrane-forming compounds that, when applied to fresh concrete, reduce moisture loss in the early hardening period. A curing compound helps retain moisture in the concrete, resulting in improved hydration of the concrete. This improved hydration produces a stronger, denser concrete substrate when compared to improperly or uncured concrete. The curing compound is considered a temporary coating, which will eventually break down and dissipate from exposure to UV light, traffic, etc.

A curing and sealing compound (cures and seals) cures as outlined above, but also forms a film that offers continued protection and improved aesthetic qualities, such as shine and a glossy, wet look, to the concrete. Curing and sealing compounds are designed to be used on fresh concrete to cure, and then will also remain on the concrete to offer the additional benefits of a sealer, such as improved appearance and improved resistance to chemicals, water, de-icing salts, etc.

A sealing compound (sealers) are designed to be applied after the concrete has cured, providing the sealing properties that are outlined above.
