\nSoft, Expandable Backer Rod for Cold-Applied Sealants<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"madeDESCRIPTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

KOOL-ROD SOFT is a polyethylene, flexible, rope-like foam joint backing material. This material is virtually non-absorbent and chemically inert to most solvents.\u00a0 KOOL-ROD SOFT will not stain or adhere to sealant materials.\u00a0 It is fully compatible with acrylic, butyl, polyurethane, polysulfide, silicone, and most other cold-applied sealant compounds. KOOL-ROD SOFT is specifically designed as a compressible backing material to be used in conjunction with a wide variety of cold-applied joint sealants. This special SOFT formulation features enhanced compression attributes, and is also non-gassing and non-bubbling.\u00a0 KOOL-ROD SOFT’s compressibility allows the product to fit into a greater variety of joint sizes.<\/p>\n

USES<\/strong><\/p>\n

KOOL-ROD SOFT is used as a backer rod for construction, expansion, isolation, control, pavement, and other concrete joints. It is highly adaptable for both vertical and horizontal applications and is also commonly used in building envelope applications, including glazing operations, copings, between precast panels, and around door and window perimeters.<\/p>\n

      APPLICATION <\/strong><\/p>\n

      Surface Preparation \u2026 <\/strong>Joint or opening must be clean, dry, and free of obstructions.<\/p>\n

      Application Method \u2026<\/strong> Select the proper rod diameter and cut to length or use directly.\u00a0 With a blunt instrument or roller, uniformly install rod at a level recommended by the sealant manufacturer, specifier, or architect.\u00a0 Generally, the depth of the joint after KOOL-ROD SOFT is installed should be half the width.\u00a0 Very large and very small joints vary in terms of this depth-to-width ratio.<\/p>\n

      PRECAUTIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Do not tear, puncture, twist, or overly compress the backer rod during installation.\u00a0 Caution should be used to avoid any situation where voids may form and trap air\/moisture between backer rod and sealant.\u00a0 Care should also be taken to prevent the introduction of air bubbles into the sealant during mixing (if any) and\/or installation.<\/p>\n
