DESCRIPTION<\/strong>
\nDECK-O-SHIELD is a ready-to-use, water-based sealer\/water repellent for natural stone, concrete, and masonry surfaces.\u00a0 DECK-O-SHIELD is designed for use as a sealer\/water repellent on waterfalls in or around swimming pools; the product will limit the penetration of water into structurally sound, crack-free surfaces.\u00a0 The product can also be used as a sealer\/water repellent for natural stone decks, walkways, or patios; virtually any area located near or around swimming pool areas.\u00a0 Surfaces treated with DECK-O-SHIELD will inhibit the penetration of salts, reducing “whitening” or staining.<\/p>\n

USES<\/strong>
\nDECK-O-SHIELD weatherproofs and protects virtually all waterfalls, decks, porches, patios, and walkways around pools, including the following surfaces: natural stone, mortar joint, concrete, brick, concrete block, stucco.<\/p>\n

Another advantage DECK-O-SHIELD provides is that the product will not alter the colour or tint of the surface after application.\u00a0 There is no need for worry when applying DECK-O-SHIELD, because the product will have no adverse effects on surface appearance after application.<\/p>\n

    SHELF LIFE<\/strong>
    \nWhen stored indoors and in original, unopened containers at temperatures between 4\u00b0 – 32\u00b0 C (40\u00b0 – 90\u00b0 F), shelf life is a minimum of two years from date of manufacture.<\/p>\n

    \nAPPLICATION<\/strong>
    \nSurface Preparation \u2026 <\/strong>Protect people, vehicles, property, plants, and all non-masonry surfaces from product, splash, residue, and wind drift.\u00a0 Thoroughly clean the surface.\u00a0 Though DECK-O-SHIELD may be applied to slightly damp surfaces, best performance is achieved on a clean, thoroughly dried and absorbent surface.\u00a0 Excessive moisture inhibits penetration, reducing the service life and performance of the treatment.\u00a0 Always test for compatibility.\u00a0 Surfaces must be structurally sound, clean, and free from dirt, efflorescence, and stains.<\/p>\n

    Surface and Air Temperatures \u2026 <\/strong>Optimum surface and air temperature is 4\u00ba – 35\u00ba C (40\u00ba – 95\u00ba F) during application and eight hours after.\u00a0 If freezing conditions exist before application, let surface to receive treatment thaw.\u00a0 The DECK-O-SHIELD water carrier may freeze at low temperatures or evaporate at high temperatures.\u00a0 Both conditions impair penetration and results.<\/p>\n

    Equipment \u2026 <\/strong>Apply with brush, roller, or low-pressure spray (<0.34 MPa [<50 psi]), depending on surface texture, area, etc.\u00a0 Fan tips are recommended for sprayers.\u00a0 A Chapin 1949 sprayer with a 0.3785 Lpm (0.1 gpm) nozzle is recommended.<\/p>\n

    Test Application \u2026 <\/strong>Always perform a test application on each type of surface prior to full-scale application to determine suitability and final appearance.\u00a0 Test using the recommended application instructions.\u00a0 Let area dry thoroughly before inspection.<\/p>\n

    Vertical Application Instructions \u2026 <\/strong>For best results, apply to a visibly dry and absorbent surface.<\/p>\n

    Spray<\/strong> \u2026<\/strong> Saturate from the bottom up, creating a 10 – 20 cm (4″ – 8″) rundown below the spray contact point.\u00a0 Let the first application penetrate for 5 – 10 minutes.\u00a0 Re-saturate while surface still appears moist.\u00a0 Less product will be needed for the second application.<\/p>\n

    Brush or Roller<\/strong> \u2026<\/strong> Saturate uniformly.\u00a0 Let penetrate for 5 – 10 minutes.\u00a0 Brush out heavy runs and drips that do not penetrate.<\/p>\n

    Dense Surface Application Instruction \u2026 <\/strong>Apply a single coat.\u00a0 Use enough to completely wet the surface without creating drips, puddles or rundown.\u00a0 DO NOT OVER APPLY.\u00a0 Test for application rate.<\/p>\n

    Horizontal Application Instructions \u2026 <\/strong>Saturate in a single application.\u00a0 Use enough to keep surface wet for 2 – 3 minutes before penetration.\u00a0 Broom out any puddles or drips until they soak in.<\/p>\n

    Note:\u00a0 Hot, windy conditions will evaporate the water carrier, reducing penetration and performance.\u00a0 On hot, windy days, apply early in the day and in shade, if possible.\u00a0 Treated surfaces dry to touch in 1 \u2013 2 hours.\u00a0 Protect surfaces from rainfall for six hours following treatment.\u00a0 Many surfaces need several days to develop optimum water repellency.<\/p>\n

    Additional Coats \u2026 <\/strong>Once the surface being treated has received the optimum amount of DECK-O-SHIELD, any additional coats will bead up on the surface.\u00a0 Discontinue application once this occurs.\u00a0 The CS-309\u2122<\/sub>, EXPO-GLOSS\u00ae<\/sub>, DECRA-SEAL\u2122<\/sub>, and VOCOMP\u00ae<\/sub> series of products, as well as HIAC\u00ae<\/sub>, all from W. R. MEADOWS, can be applied over a surface treated with DECK-O-SHIELD.\u00a0 The resulting barrier will provide water beading, and depending on product used, will also provide a glossy surface appearance.\u00a0 The initial application of DECK-O-SHIELD must be applied properly and at recommended application rate.<\/p>\n

    Clean Up \u2026 <\/strong>Immediately clean tools, equipment and overspray with soap and warm water.<\/p>\n

    PRECAUTIONS<\/strong>
    \nDO NOT DILUTE OR ALTER.\u00a0 MIX CONTAINER THOROUGHLY PRIOR TO USE.\u00a0 DO NOT FREEZE.\u00a0 DECK-O-SHIELD is a water repellent, not a waterproofing or vapour barrier.\u00a0 It will not hide existing surface stains.\u00a0 DECK-O-SHIELD should not be applied to surfaces that are to receive caulks or sealants.\u00a0 Application over fully cured elastomeric sealants typically will not affect the sealant.\u00a0 Do not apply to surfaces with temperatures of <4\u00ba C (40\u00ba F) or >35\u00ba C (95\u00ba F).\u00a0 Prevent from being spilled or over sprayed onto nearby water sources.\u00a0 Temporary darkening of some substrates may occur.\u00a0 Apply a small test patch application prior to full-scale application.\u00a0 Refer to material safety data sheet for complete health and safety information.<\/p>\n
