Wet curing is preferable.\u00a0 Any membrane curing compounds must be mechanically removed.\u00a0 Address any projections and fill in any voids or indentations to provide a smooth, level surface.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Surface Preparation \u2026<\/strong> HYDRALASTIC 836 is intended for concrete, metal, and wood surfaces.\u00a0 For existing concrete remedial work or new concrete lacking profile, lightly roughen or rough grind substrate. Remove all unsound substrate and provide a relatively flat, profiled, roughened surface. Substrate must be structurally sound, surface dry condition, dust-free, and free of frost, grease, oil, dirt, curing compounds, release agents, or any other surface or penetrated contaminants that will adversely affect bond.\u00a0 Use denatured alcohol to remove all grime, oil, loose paint, frost, and other contamination, from all working surfaces.\u00a0 DO NOT USE petroleum solvents such as mineral spirits or xylene.<\/p>\n<p>Repair any concrete deterioration, defects or voids and fill bug holes, minor surface defects or tie holes with <a href=\"https:\/\/can.wrmeadows.com\/en-ca\/meadow-patch-5-cementitious-repair-mortar-canada\/\">MEADOW-PATCH<sub>\u00ae<\/sub> 5<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/can.wrmeadows.com\/en-ca\/meadow-patch-20-fast-setting-cementitious-repair-mortar-canada\/\">MEADOW-PATCH 20<\/a> from W. R. MEADOWS.\u00a0 Irregularities in concrete that could cause a protrusion should be ground to a smooth surface.\u00a0 Penetrations should be grouted and structurally sound. All penetration areas must have sufficient room for adequate waterproofing to be applied.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Priming \u2026 <\/strong>For porous substrates where air and\/or moisture release may cause pinhole or blister problems to occur in the applied membrane, priming the substrate prior to application of HYDRALASTIC 836 is recommended.\u00a0 Priming is also recommended to remove trapped air\/vapour from the substrate.\u00a0 Do not use asphalt-based primers.\u00a0 The recommended primers are <a href=\"https:\/\/can.wrmeadows.com\/en-ca\/rezi-weld-lv-canada\/\">REZI-WELD<sub>\u2122<\/sub> LV<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/can.wrmeadows.com\/en-ca\/rezi-weld-lv-state-canada\/\">REZI-WELD LV STATE<\/a> from W. R. MEADOWS.\u00a0 For vertical applications ONLY, <a href=\"https:\/\/can.wrmeadows.com\/en-ca\/rezi-weld-1000-canada\/\">REZI-WELD 1000<\/a> is recommended.\u00a0 For full priming instructions, see <a href=\"https:\/\/can.wrmeadows.com\/hydralastic-836-and-sl-priming-installation-guidelines\/\">INSTALLATION GUIDELINES: HYDRALASTIC 836 PRIMING GUIDE<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/can.wrmeadows.com\/training-videos\/hydralastic-836-application-video-concrete-waterproofing-compound\/\">Application Method<\/a> \u2026 <\/strong>Gentle mixing using a slow-speed drill and paddle may be necessary if product has settled. Do not over mix.\u00a0 Make sure product is conditioned at 23\u00b0 C by storing product overnight or at least 12 hours prior to use for ease of application.\u00a0 Apply by trowel, squeegee, or roller.\u00a0 A flat-blade squeegee is suggested for best results. Notched rubber squeegees waste material and do not provide a uniform coat.\u00a0 Flat-blade squeegees provide a uniform mil thickness.\u00a0 HYDRALASTIC 836 can also be applied horizontally with a squeegee or roller and vertically with a roller.\u00a0 Test periodically to make sure adequate adhesion is achieved.\u00a0 HYDRALASTIC 836 has a work life of one hour at 23\u00b0 C.\u00a0 Make sure all spreading and finishing of the product has been completed within this timeframe.<\/p>\n<p>A single-coat application (60 mils) can be used for typical waterproofing applications such as foundation walls and planters.\u00a0 In critical waterproofing applications such as plaza decks, podiums, or other similar horizontal waterproofing applications, a 120-mil layer of HYDRALASTIC 836 embedded with <a href=\"https:\/\/can.wrmeadows.com\/en-ca\/reinforcing-fabric-hcr-canada\/\">REINFORCING FABRIC HCR<\/a> from W. R. MEADOWS is recommended.\u00a0 For all horizontal installations, refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/can.wrmeadows.com\/technical-bulletins\/hydralastic-836-technical-bulletin\/\">HIGH BUILD REINFORCED SYSTEM TECHNICAL BULLETIN<\/a> for proper installation guidelines.\u00a0 If there are no details available for your specific application, please <a href=\"https:\/\/can.wrmeadows.com\/tech-form\/\">contact a W. R. MEADOWS representative<\/a> for recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>If a second coat is necessary, apply as soon as possible, but no more than eight hours apart at 23\u00b0 C.\u00a0 As ambient, substrate, and material temperatures increase, an oily like film may develop on the surface and act as a bond breaker.<\/p>\n<p>For next-day or second-coat applications, rub the tie-in area down [152 &#8211; 203 mm wide (6\u2033 &#8211; 8\u2033)] with acetone or alcohol.\u00a0 This removes the oil film.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Protect the Membrane \u2026 <\/strong>On all vertical and horizontal installations, protect HYDRALASTIC 836 with <a href=\"https:\/\/can.wrmeadows.com\/en-ca\/protection-course-vibraflex-waterproofing-protection-board-canada\/\">PROTECTION COURSE (VIBRAFLEX<sub>\u00ae<\/sub> PC<\/a>) or <a href=\"https:\/\/can.wrmeadows.com\/en-ca\/mel-drain-canada\/\">MEL-DRAIN<sub>\u2122<\/sub><\/a> (type with the polyester backing film) from W. R. MEADOWS or contact W. R. MEADOWS for additional protection course options.\u00a0 Application of protection should be done after material can be walked on without causing damage to the integrity of the membrane.<\/p>\n<p>HYDRALASTIC 836 will not typically wash off if rain begins during or after application.\u00a0 Stop all work if rain begins and protect open or unused material from rainfall.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tack-Free Drying Time \u2026<\/strong> HYDRALASTIC 836 features a fast drying time.\u00a0 Drying time is usually four hours, depending on temperature and relative humidity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cleanup \u2026<\/strong> Uncured HYDRALASTIC 836 cleans up easily with alcohol.\u00a0 Cured material is best removed by mechanical means.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PRECAUTIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Do not expose product to exterior UV for longer than 14 days.\u00a0 HYDRALASTIC 836 is not to be used as a liner in a water-containing structure and is not to be used as an exposed or wearing surface.\u00a0 For this purpose, use the <a href=\"https:\/\/can.wrmeadows.com\/cementitious-waterproofing\/\">GEMITE<sub>\u00ae<\/sub> line of products<\/a>.\u00a0 Do not use on surfaces that are later to be painted.\u00a0 This data sheet provides a summary of the factors, precautions, limitations, and design theories that should be considered when designing a complete waterproofing and drainage system, but is not stand alone or complete; project, environmental, and application specific requirements must be considered before drafting a guide specification, determining suitability or application of material.
