MEADOWS Technical Service<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Surface Preparation \u2026<\/strong> New concrete surfaces are to be fully cured and dry or approved by the engineer.\u00a0 Surface is to be cleaned of all dust, dirt, and debris just prior to priming.\u00a0 Existing concrete surfaces are to have a smooth, sound, monolithic surface, free of voids, spalled areas, sharp protrusions, and loose aggregate.\u00a0 Remove all traces of old membranes, oil, grease, or other contaminants.\u00a0 For enhanced bond between asphalt overlay and MEL-DEK, apply an asphalt emulsion, water-based tack coat to the surface of MEL-DEK.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Temperature \u2026<\/strong> MEL-DEK may be applied in fair weather at air and concrete surface temperatures of 4\u00b0 C and higher.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Joints and Slab Drainage \u2026 <\/strong>Apply a reinforcing strip of <a href=\"https:\/\/can.wrmeadows.com\/en-ca\/detail-strip-canada\/\">DETAIL STRIP<\/a> from W. R. MEADOWS over all non-working joints or cracks over 4.76 mm (3\/16&#8243;) wide before applying finished membrane.\u00a0 Seal all terminations with <a href=\"https:\/\/can.wrmeadows.com\/en-ca\/pointing-mastic-canada\/\">POINTING MASTIC<\/a> from W. R. MEADOWS.\u00a0 Deck surface must provide proper pitch to gutters and drains.\u00a0 Drainage openings should be provided at the structural deck level to drain any water that penetrates the asphaltic concrete surface.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conditioning \u2026<\/strong> Condition all surfaces to be covered with <a href=\"https:\/\/can.wrmeadows.com\/en-ca\/mel-prime-canada\/\">MEL-PRIME<sub>\u2122<\/sub><\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/can.wrmeadows.com\/en-ca\/mel-prime-wb-canada\/\">MEL-PRIME W\/B<\/a> adhesive from W. R. MEADOWS. Adhesive may be spray-applied or applied with a lamb&#8217;s wool roller. Allow adhesive to dry until tack-free. Primed areas not covered in 24 hours must be re-primed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A<\/strong><strong>pplication Method \u2026<\/strong> Apply MEL-DEK from low point to high point in both the longitudinal and transverse directions.\u00a0 In the transverse direction, overlap in shingle fashion 63.5 mm (2 1\/2&#8243;) after removing the white polyethylene strip that exposes the 19.1 mm (3\/4&#8243;) rubberized asphalt.\u00a0 This will provide the membrane-to-membrane weld at seams.\u00a0 Longitudinally, overlap 150 mm (6&#8243;) and seal with POINTING MASTIC.\u00a0 Once positioned, MEL-DEK should be immediately hand-rubbed onto the surface, followed by a pressure-applied roll pressing of the complete surface to assure positive adhesion.\u00a0 Seal all terminations with POINTING MASTIC.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note \u2026 <\/strong>Where a 125+ mil thick membrane is desired, overlap each roll of MEL-DEK 51%.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inspect and Repair \u2026<\/strong> Inspect thoroughly before covering and make any necessary repairs immediately.\u00a0 Patch all tears, slit fish mouths and patch, then seal edges of all patches with POINTING MASTIC.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Paving \u2026<\/strong> Placement of the asphalt concrete overlay should be accomplished as soon as possible after application of MEL-DEK.\u00a0 A minimum 50 mm (2&#8243;) compacted overlay thickness is required.\u00a0 The temperature of the asphalt concrete at the time of compaction should be a minimum of 143.3\u00b0 C, not to exceed 171.1\u00b0 C.\u00a0 Paving equipment should be rubber tire variety.\u00a0 Protect the membrane surface from unnecessary traffic.\u00a0 Place the overlay from low point to high point with care and caution.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PRECAUTIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/can.wrmeadows.com\/Msds-2K-CAN\/7100-602.pdf\">Safety Data Sheet<\/a> for complete health and safety information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MASTERFORMAT NUMBER AND TITLE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>07 13 26 &#8211; Self-Adhering Sheet Waterproofing<\/p>\n<p>2022-10<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/can.wrmeadows.com\/pics\/foot-can.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"98\" align=\"BOTTOM\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/can.wrmeadows.com\/pics\/footer-can.jpg\" alt=\"warranty\" width=\"614\" height=\"212\" align=\"BOTTOM\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MEL-DEK is a roll-type waterproofing membrane that is 65 mils thick, composed of a polymeric waterproofing membrane on a shrink-resistant, heavy-duty,  polypropylene woven carrier fabric.
